Surface Topography of the Materials used in NSW Micromegas Quadruplets

Abstract

In the framework of the NSW Micromegas Quadruplet production for the LHC-ATLAS Upgrade of phase I at CERN, their gas sealing is a crucial issue. For this reason, we studied the sealing feasibility based on the topography analysis of the materials used for the contact with the elastic rubber cord. In this work we present the obtained measurements by Atomic Force Spectroscopy for the relevant materials, FR4 and Kapton, and the data analysis method we used for determining the roughness of their surfaces. Moreover, we have introduced and applied an extended version of the K-correlation model for the modelling of the power spectrum. Beside the above materials, we present the Dynamic Mechanical Analysis and the associated modelling of the rubber cord used as O-ring in the Micromegas Quadruplets.
